My Approach

The process of Recovery, Healing, and Change is a journey, and sometimes we need someone to walk alongside us. That is what I do as a therapist. I do not change my clients. I do not fix my clients’ problems. I walk with them on their individual journeys, providing them with the tools that help them challenge the thoughts or beliefs that cause them overwhelming emotions, unhealthy interactions, or destructive behaviors.

I help my clients work through the stressors that interfere with their inner peace. We find ourselves struggling when we do not experience peace in various aspects of our lives. Depression and anxiety are as a result of the absence of peace in our emotions.  Couples fight in the absence of peace in their relationships. People engage in destructive behaviors in their quest to quench emotional unrest they feel powerless to handle.  Addictive behaviors are our way of seeking calmness or peace in our body or mind. By helping my clients develop positive coping skills to deal with life stressors, and replacing negative thought patterns with positive thought process, they are able to reclaim their PEACE, emotionally, relationally, and physically.

In my practice as a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), and Alcohol Drug Mental Health Counselor (LADC/MH), I utilize an inclusive approach of counseling because I consider each individual unique. Even when the experience or challenge seems the same, the impact on our emotions, relationships, and whole being is different. I use a Client-Centered approach on my initial meeting with a client to build rapport and create an atmosphere where the client feels comfortable and has an equal control over the therapeutic process. Then I gradually incorporate Behavioral and Cognitive techniques to help the individual challenge thoughts, beliefs, and perceptions of themselves, others, or situations, that could pose a hindrance to their ability to recover, heal, or change.
