Need-To-Know

Please keep in mind that sometimes, when people seek therapy, it might not be because of a mental health disorder. Sometimes, people seek therapy to:

  • resolve issues in their relationships that cause them emotional distress.

  • learn healthy and effective ways to communicate and interact in their various relationships.

  • resolve work or school-related stress so they can thrive in their academics, jobs, or careers

  • gain some life skills to help them become more productive in their various areas of life or stages of development

  • Learn ways to adjust to changes in various aspects of their lives

  • celebrate successes and accomplishments in their lives as a reinforcer for future goals and aspirations

However, insurance requires a mental health diagnosis to reimburse outpatient mental health services. We will determine if you meet the diagnostic criteria during your first visit. If that is the case, we will bill your insurance for the services you receive. Remember that your mental health diagnosis is part of your medical record.

  • Please review the list of insurance below that I am in-network with. If I am out of network with your insurance, that means you will pay out-of-pocket for the services, and I will provide you a superbill to submit to your insurance for possible reimbursement based on your insurance policy. Please contact your insurance to verify whether you have out-of-network benefits.

  • It is easier to call your insurance or log into your insurance portal to determine if you have met your deductible for the year. Also, find out if the deductible is applied to outpatient mental health services. Some policies might waive deductibles for outpatient therapy services. I usually try on my end to verify your insurance benefits before your first visit. However, sometimes the information I see on the provider portal might be slightly different when we submit an actual claim.

  • If you have an FSA or HSA card, you can use that to pay for your copay or deductible as allowed by your insurance plan.

  • If you have insurance and will be using your insurance for therapy, the fee that you get charged might be slightly different from the amount I charge for self-pay.

  • Insurance does not cover ADSAC assessment.

  • In compliance with the No Surprises Act, you and I will have an understanding of what your cost estimate would be before your first therapy session. You can determine this amount by calling your insurance (if you would be using it) and asking them how much you will be responsible for if you receive outpatient mental health services through an in-network or out-of-network provider. Please be sure to determine my status with your insurance (in-network or out-of-network). I would do the same on my end by verifying your benefits through the provider portal and informing you of the same when I receive your new-client registration form. Before your first therapy session, you will know how much you will be responsible for, whether you will use your insurance or pay out-of-pocket.
